Vista: Shutdown by Default
Ok, so you’re on Vista and it’s all good. The only problem is (I wish!) that when you go to shutdown, it defaults to sleep. Even if you disable sleep in the power settings, it still does it.
Firstly; there’s a reason why. Microsoft is really proud that they have (they claim) now nailed sleep. In fact, it’s supposedly no longer “auto-crash” but actually does what it supposed to. So much so, they reckon you basically don’t need “off” anymore. (We all need a little more power consumption, after all!)
That aside, here’s how to get rid of it:
Step 1: Control Panel > Power Options > Change Plan Settings

Step 2: Click on advanced settings

Step 3: Expand “Power Buttons and lid”. Then Expand “start menu button” and change it from sleep to “shutdown”.

That’s it. Till next time.
